Canada Day, Nine Days Late

July 1st was Canada Day. It’s the day the British North America Act, later to be renamed the Constitution Act, 1867, was passed by the British Parliament declaring Canada a country.

However, it would be wrong to interpret this as an “Independence Day”, a la the Americans. If you want more information regarding Canada’s journey to full “independence” I suggest looking up the “Statute of Westminister, 1931” and the “Constitution Act, 1982”

Anyways, here’s some photos I took of my recent adventure into downtown Ottawa during Canada Day 2024.

Due to the large

Due to the large amount of foot traffic, when we got off the train we were funnelled down a walking path with fences blocking both sides. As we were walking, we passed the back of these buildings. I assume they’re condos. There was this little green space that caught my eye. If I lived in these condos, I’d love to enjoy the sun here. I’d probably write some of this blog there.

We spent most of our time downtown at the Canadian War Museum. That’s where the rest of these photos are from. Nice boat.

Cannot remember the context of this. Just thought it was absurdly pretentious. Hopefully it’s not bad to say that.

Oh, never mind! The next photo contains the context.

So yeah, probably shouldn’t have said that. In fact, probably not a good to be glib about anything in the War Museum.

While I myself am not an artist, I find art of other eras fascinating. In particular, I find great interest in the art used in everyday communication, such as posters, advertising, and popular entertainment. These two postcards containing wartime propaganda are a great example. I would say the big heads are odd, but they remind me the modern day chibi style used in anime.

While I find the art in this one less interest, the overall message and presentation were very entertaining to me. It’s just the sheer directness of it. If you consume more than you need, you’re a fat cat and a member of the Hun!

CANADA MAN!!!

Sorry this post was nearly as in-depth or thoughtful as my previous post. Just wanted to share a few things.
